The project Kolo pro Adama started with the aim of helping Adam Kuthan, a 10 year old boy, who fell in love with a special bicycle from Černí koně. He needed a bike like that so that he could live better and happier. To find the meaning of life.
Adam Kuthan was born a healthy baby. But at the age of three, he began to have balance problems and doctors found out he had a brain tumor. Although the difficult operation saved Adam’s life, it made him bedridden and it could not be done without consequences (central quadriparesis, epilepsy and disorders of gross and fine motor skills, speech, vision and balance). Adam’s mother had to carry him home like a rag doll. They had been waiting for a change for 7 long years. Then, Adam tried out a handbike from Černí koně. He fell in love with it and Adam’s new, beautiful journey through life began. Life on a bike. It was Adam’s big dream at the time, that he needed to start training for. Adam never gives up, he pursues his dream every day.
After three years with a children’s handbike, it was clear that if Adam wanted to continue, he needed a new, expensive, adult one. Fate brought Adam into our path, and the Kolo pro ADAMA challenge arose. The aim was to help one disabled boy from the Moravian town of Bukovany, to help him buy a new expensive bike. But your good hearts and the power of thought have led to establishing a project that helps not only Adam, but many other children with disabilities.
Adam is no longer just the boy we “helped”. Adam is the face of the challenge, a role model not only for other children, but also for us. He is an athlete with a heart of a warrior and a determination that not everyone has.
In 2021, Adam became a young man with the performance of an adult racer. Adam cycles every day, pedaling at home or outside. What he was missing in his home gym was a special cycling machine called recumbent. Thanks to Kolo pro ADAMA 2021, this has also become a reality and Adam got an awesome new recumbent.
In 2021, Adam accomplished what we would never have expected:
he spent a total of 410 hours cycling = an average of 7 hours per week
he cycled 10,000 km = an average of 200 km per week
climbed almost 64 km = conquered Mt. Everest 7 times
surprised us during the Christmas holidays when he completed the Rapha Festive 500 challenge (500 km in the period from December 24th to December 31st). Adam didn’t tell anyone, he just worked hard every day, and he did it!
Thank you Adam, that we can be with you as you improve every day. It motivates us to see you work hard. We get on a bike and we also go cycling. We hope you’ll enjoy cycling for as long as possible.
Adam’s mother Silva says: “It’s crazy with Adam. He loves fast cycling. The new bike allows him to cycle just the way he likes. He is happy while he rides the bike, he feels free and forgets about his worries and his disability.”
